Beer Tasting on Halloween
Posted November 02, 2009 by thecaptain

We tasted our last three batches on Halloween - the Stout and Vienna Lager get passing grades, the Pale Ale not quite. Thanks for the feedback everyone who tried some of our concoctions (all three of you!), and next time we will experiment with some new hop varieties, steep our own grains, and move away from processed starches (rice sugars, maybe?).

Until then, stay MIGHTEOUS.

Just a note to everyone that the Mighty Brewing BeerLOG (that's BLOG - for beer!) is hosted with Dreamhost, a carbon-neutral web hosting company.

We try our best to reuse our equipment and keep our environmental footprint low while enjoying our beer (even using biodegradable sterilizer) and brewing, so Dreamhost is a great fit for us.  Their support is responsive, as well, and we haven't had any problems with speed, disk space, or ease of account management.

Mighteous Beer is born!
Posted May 15, 2009 by thecaptain

Beers that the club deems fit for a recipe and refining / repeating will be deemed worthy of the moniker, MighteousTM Beer.  This way we can keep track of the differences between the Fun-D-Mental beers and Fondamental beers.

Some of the Mighteous beers may even be kept private to the club (must be a member to get access to the recipe) so that a trade secret can be kept just in case we ever take the Brewery commercial.  Gotta take care of our IP!

Mighteous: a combination of mighty and righteous; or extra super duper mighty. (urbandictionary.com)

Back from the dead!

Whew! It's been almost six months since we added any content to the site. BlackBeered and I have been working hard getting back to the basics and have created 4 batches in the last month.

We just bottled two Hefeweizens, a Blueberry Wheat and Cherry Wheat. They should be ready in about 3 weeks once we let them age a little in the fridge.  The other two are a Honey Nut Brown and a West Coast Pale Ale, which were just bottled today and will need another month or so before they are ready to be tasted.  This is our first experiement with different hop varieties, so it should be fun to taste all of these beers when they are ready.

Club Logo and Naming Convention
Posted May 09, 2009 by thecaptain

Back for another post.  Two in the same day!

We have a logo.  This will be used for the Club in general as well as the labels on the bottle necks.  To check out the logo, click here. Thanks to Tinkerbell for creating the logo for the club.  She will be working on the logos for the beers as we need them as well.

BlackBeered and I decided on a naming system for our beers.

Standard beers will be part of the "Fondamental" series (i.e. Fondamental Oktoberfest, Fondamental Cherry Wheat) until it is decided that a particular batch will form the core of a new recipe that we want to be able to duplicate in the future.  It will then be given a unique name (and series, if applicable).

More experimental beers will be given a name, usually goofy or nonsensical, as part of the "Fun-D-Mental" series (i.e., Fun-D-Mental Hoptastic).

Other series and names will be determined as needed.  All bathes will be recorded as "Brew Blogs" on the website, and permanent beers added to the club's repertoire will be transferred into recipes with instructions so other members and brew clubs can try their hand at a particular beer.
